Reviews
I am a huge fan of the franchise going back to the ATARI JAGUAR version ( the original that was redone for pc),so when i heard this was coming out I had preordered the collectors edition. Shortly before mine had shipped I read the game informer review of this game and saw the horrible review they had giving it. At the time I didn't want to pay $99 for a game that I was going to trade in shortly after getting, so I canceled it and waited. I finally broke down and bought this last week on amazon. The game was great but very short.
Fun : 5/5 Stars Graphics : 5/5 stars Story : 5/5 Gameplay 2/5 Mapping 3/5 Difficulty 6/5 Multilayer(Xbox live) 4/5 Let me say a synopsis; Xenomorph : Easy as hell, no challenge at all. FUN FUN FUN. Marine : Frustrating. In the marine campaign you die at point blank range of killing a xenomorph. The game has lost one star because of the lack of armor from the previous game that could have substituted as protection against the Xenomorphs molecular acid at point blank. Also why use flares instead of the conventional flashlight? Also the game's Zero Checkpoints on Nightmare Difficulty is stupid and unnecessary. Stupid being that it builds way too much tension. Also for those of you who don't know Zero Checkpoints means it means that if you die you start over from point A of the level, saves are also disabled in the Nightmare. The game-play requires way to much "Hit-and-run" tactics and accuracy. Which makes the Marine Campaign unfun. But predator. Predator : Easy/Frustrating. The marines are easy as hell, Pop stealth get behind them. Fire your laser, Distract. Easy. The XenoMorph's however are Easy/frustrating depending on the difficulty. At the beginning of the level you have two claws as melee. With Practice you can knock them on the ground, grab and lay a finishing move on them which equals Fun. The xenomorphs's are a pain however when on Hard or Nightmare difficulty. Being that you can never knock them down for a finishing move EVER. There is really a lot of strategy to beat them on at the first 3/6 Levels. The game however gets Easier once you get the Disc blade thing, and the spear. Which you can one shot them. Also you don't need to worry about dieing at point blank range from the Xeno's Molecular acid because of the Predator's armor, which makes the predator more fun then the marine campaign. Consensus: The gameplay is Fun/Easy/Challenging for the most part. But for the Marine Campaign Sega could have tried harder with the mapping and gameplay.
First of all the guns of this game are chessey. It was the sort of game you play when you are extremely bored. Playing the aliens is fun though. I'd only play the alein campains. The game isn't VERY scary but it makes you scared. Multiplayer is pretty good. You can tell by how it was made from a film company it would be bad. This game is nothing special. Don't get if you don't like gore! JK THIS WAS A REVEIW BY MY SON, CHRISTIAN
"Aliens vs Predator" is an extremely fun game for the Xbox. The ability to play as an Alien, Predator, or Human is very enjoyable, and the computer controlled opponents are challenging. The environment does capture the creepy feel of the movies very well and the special attention seemed to have been given to making the Aliens just as sinister. The controls are intuitive and easy to use for all of the characters, and there is a tutorial at the start to learn the specifics for each type. To start, the Alien is the most fun to play, the Predator is overall the best as levels progress, and as to be expected, the Human is the weakest and hardest to play. This game has a lot gore and very bad language (read cursing), so be aware that you will not want the little ones in the room when playing this one. Highly Recommended! CFH
The solo part of this game is ok. It is basically training for the multiplayer. It has a bare bones story that moves things along, but for the most part it leaves you wanting more. Which is a perfect lead in for the multiplayer. If all you play is the solo game you'll walk away thinking this game was kind of a let down. If you play the solo campaign and then take what you learned into the online you'll find this is one of the best multiplayer games ever. That's right, ever. I've been playing the online multiplayer now for over a month and I'm still haven't grown tired of the trophy kills (the Predator has some really fun ones.) I would recommond this game to any alien, or Predator fan as well as any FPS fan. The great thing about this game is once you get bored of being a human, you can play as an alien. Once you get bored of being an alien you can play as a Predator. And once you get bored of playing as a Predator...well...you might want to make sure you're playing the game right. 7/10 for the single player, 10/10 for the multiplayer. And I'd give a strong warning to any parents out there. This is the most gore filled game I've ever played. But then again, this may be obvious since it is a game based on film franchises that are rated "R".
